Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, Ireland
Kilmainham Gaol (Irish: Prosn Chill Mhaighneann) is a former prison, located in Inchicore in Dublin, which is now a museum. It has been run since the mid-1980s by the Office of Public Works (O.P.W.), an Irish Government agency.
Kilmainham Gaol has played an important part in Irish history, as many leaders of Irish rebellions were imprisoned and some executed in the jail. The jail has also been used as a set for several films. Including In The Name Of The Father
When it was first built in 1796, Kilmainham Gaol was called the New Gaol to distinguish it from the old jail it was intended to replace - a noisome dungeon, just a few hundred metres from the present site. It was officially called the County of Dublin Gaol, and was originally run by the Grand Jury for County Dublin. Over the 140 years it served as a prison, its cells held many of the most famous people involved in the campaign for Irish independence. The leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were held and executed here.
Children were sometimes arrested for petty theft (also the case in UK), the youngest said to be a seven year-old boy[citation needed], while many of the adult prisoners were deported to Australia.
There was no segregation of prisoners; men women and children were incarcerated up to 9 in each cell, with only a single candle for light and heat, most of their time was spent in the cold and the dark.
Kilmainham Gaol was abandoned as a jail in 1924, by the government of the new Irish Free State. Following lengthy restoration, it now houses a museum on the history of Irish nationalism and offers guided tours of the building.

Today we walked in the Pride parade!! Originally we planned on just watching from the sidelines, but we saw Declan (my boss) walking in the parade and he pulled us in. We walked for a good portion of it and then got to see the show! There were SOO many people in the parade / at the show. It was great to be surrounded by such fun and positive energy. Also, pride parades are the best people watching venues. So so many hot tranny messes but also some GORGEOUS scantily clad gay men. And the weather was great all day- warm and sunny :).

I want to feel as alive as I did in Ireland. Carefree, reckless, and spontaneous.Im happy with today. It marks just a few months of being out to my family and friends. Today was also my first pride and I marched with the Transgender Equality Network Ireland. At first my friend (Hey Bro) and myself were following the banner quite closely for the first part of the parade. Then I was asked to carry one side of the banner. I think what Im most happy with is the fact that Ive only very recently changed the name of meself and its only been a few months since I started interacting with the transgender community in Dublin.
Some of the transwomen who know me a while said that I was doing well to be out so short a time and then to go on to marching with the banner at the front of our section. I think the sense of community is very strong between the trans people I know and their support has made such a difference. Id also have to say I owe my bro Sclez for basically being there and for coming to march with me.
Now me mammy wants to watch the news in case she sees me on it. It may be one of those embarrassing mother moments but I think shes accepted me now.
Also STICKERS.

There was some guy preaching about the bible on OConnell Street today after the Pride parade in Dublin, so my friend and I decided to walk past while holding hands and wish him a happy pride day. He told us we werent going to heaven. I gave him a look which said fuck off.

Dublin City University -Hybrid Awards - Best Documentary of the Year 2011
So yes! My Couchsurfing documentary that I had minimal faith in won this award. Tis rather odd, and it was genuinely unexpected though sitting in the venue and the announcement pounding down upon me my competitive self did strike up nerves of anticipation. I edited this piece with two other classmates, Risn Murphy and Bl de Burca for a video project. I had to fly off to Norway then as it rendered. It nearly blew my stress levels and so I am so pleased it won.
Media Production Society -Best Society in Ireland 2011
I was the DCUtv Station Manager which was in the Media Production Society in my university and also DCUfm the campus radio station was part of this society also. We were all voluntarily running MPS because we love it and we were awarded the best society in DCU and then were put forward to the national event.
So yes. We were interviewed and the awards were very lovely with food and wine and I was all dressed up all nice. It was just, insanely overwhelming when we won. I had never felt so sickly nervous. The title of the best in your entire country is so wonderful and just makes all those hard nights planning and organisation seem like beautiful acts of diligence.
I have posted my documentary and also a video showing what the Media Production Society does.
Awards can be silly. But its nice to be acknowledged.

YOU CAN CHECK OUT ALL OF STARTERS SONGS HERE!To kick off this blog, Id like to begin by introducing those who live under a very large rock to one Leigh Arthur part of the inklude collective, shes a super talented chick studying in IADT pour ce moment and, unfortunately for me and my penchant for perving ridiculously on her, she has traded Dublin for New York this Summer. The reason Leighs artwork sprang to mind so suddenly and decisively was because I was in the Bernard Shaw earlier and mid-pee in the girls stalls I look up only to be greeted by a lewd scenario skillfully drawn in what appeared to be a black sharpie, now, Im pretty sure there arent many chicks in Dublin who get off on doodling that kind of delightful filth everywhere, but Leigh strikes me as one of them. Check out her blog here:
http://unclemadness.blogspot.com/
Leigh Arthur is one to watch, Im often too blinded by her hilarity, her devastating good looks or the fact that she likes to talk about giant, artificial, male genitalia to remember or appreciate how talented she is, but what can you do?
Contact Leigh Arthur here if youre interested in hiring her, sending her explosive packages or asking her to be your friend, I asked her to be my friend once, it didnt end well, but she accepted my third attempt at adding her facebook account which is nice.
*Photograph taken from the Dubliner magazine in the issue where Leigh spent a long time talking about herself, an issue I particularly enjoyed, about an artist I particularly enjoy, Im fighting a great battle against the urge to say something hideously smutty (she brings out the worst in me) so instead, Ill leave this post as it is, dont forget to pop down to the Bernard Shaw to check out some of Leighs work, and be sure to visit her blog at the above link for a wide range of her previous work.
The best cover. Find it at their Bandcamp.

Irish Artist Felim Egan: Why Im Sailing video | Occupied Palestine | ??????Ive been in Dublin for exactly one week now. Heres a bit of what Ive learned since my arrival:
- Does Ireland have any meteorologists? If so, are they just told to wing it? Because the weather here is extremely unpredictable. An example of a typical day: Clouds, rain, LOTS of rain, clouds, sun, sudden rain, sun shower, sun. Ive been good about keeping an umbrella with me everywhere I go. (Yes, Ive yet to misplace/lose it. But theres still time for that.)
- I cant determine whether or not I like the sun setting at 10pm. Ill lean toward like, but I imagine that will mess me up a bit when I return home. (Right now, the sun just sets at 8pm there.)
- Crack (spelled craic) in Ireland is notthe same as crack in the US. I had plenty of fun finding that out on Tuesday.
- I found a drink. Its called cider. Its made by Bulmers. Something tells me I will miss this stuff when I leave. (Although, do they have it back in the States? If so, Ive a feeling its not the same, just as people told me about Guinness.)
- Regardless, Im still a piss-poor drinker. It takes me forever to make it through a pint. People are kind enough to take notice of it here. :) (Or waitthey notice it back home, too. What? I like to take my time with the alcohol!)
- Coin money is useful here. Someone, please help me remember that. I keep breaking 50s and Im sure it ticks off the cashiers just a liiiiittle bit.
- Irish people are incredibly friendly and carefree. Its helped me to relax a bit, too!
- Im not quiiiiiiiite ready to go back to the States on Tuesday. I think I need to spend more time here. For work purposes. Yes, I think I need to accomplish more work-related things, somehow. (With much love to my friends and family back home, if youve ever been to Ireland, you may understand why Im not eager to race to the airport.)
Most of my week has been devoted to working, but some evenings, Ive kicked back and enjoyed a few pints at the pub. My past two outings, Ive been treated to some excellent live music. (It also helps that my coworkers fiancee is a musician - a very talented one at that.) Last night, I even got to dance the ceilidh. It made me a little dizzy at the end, but it still was so much fun!
I havent made much time for sightseeing, unfortunately. Today is my last free day in Dublin, and I may spend a majority of that going souvenir shopping and doing laundry. (I really need clothes! But you can just buy clothes. Yeah, true.) Well see where the wind takes me. (It may be windy at one point today, knowing Ireland.)
It pains me to say that I havent done much of this, but I have taken few photos (via phone):
OK, allow me a moment to be immature and laugh like Im hanging out with Beavis and Butt-head. Every time I walk by this store, I cant help but be amused by this. I had to take a photo.
Add one more letter and you have my last name! Perhaps there is a relation somehow.
Oh, a reminder of home. (Its just missing Ryan Howard.)
Live at The Blarney Inn (last night). Excellent show. Click here to see / hear them play.
I can not be thankful to my company enough for allowing me the opportunity to come to Ireland. Works been great, of course. (Im so happy I finally had the opportunity to meet our Irish staff in person!) The extracurriculars have made the trip even better. Im truly enjoying myself here, and have met plenty of interesting people in the process. (Can I visit again soon? :))
Its almost 10 am. I should finally treat myself to an Irish Breakfast, now that Im up early enough / not hustling to work. (Although that scone I had on my way to the office one day was pretty good. Mmmmscones. And strawberry jam. Cue Homer Simpson drooling sounds!)
Love you all!
